Diane Steinbrueck's
Life in Landscape Architecture
Determination. That's the word that comes to mind when commemorating the life of Linda Diane Steinbrueck. Determination to contribute to the profession of landscape architecture. Determination to enjoy the beauty of life and share that beauty with family and friends. Determination to provide the best possible life for her daughter Mackenzie.
Determination led her to Austin, Texas where the whole state has benefitted from her generous spirit. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1981 with her BLA, Diane received her Landscape Architect license in 1984.
In Austin, her first supervisor at Gates and Associates was Helen Lacy Bryan who remained a life-long friend. In 1986, determination led Diane to become one of the first female landscape architects in Austin to start their own practice at a time when there were few women in charge of their own work.
That same determination led her to make contributions to her profession throughout her career. In 1988 she served as State Treasurer for the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Her continued volunteer efforts were recognized by the Texas Chapter ASLA with the Chapter Service Award in 1998 and later Community Service Award in 2009.
Diane was appointed by the Texas Governor to serve two terms on the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners from 2001-2013, representing landscape architects statewide. Also, she volunteered as a licensing examination grader and later board member of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Board (CLARB). Her behind the scenes volunteerism and leadership are examples of sacrifice and devotion to the profession. All of Diane's public service was in addition to managing her own practice and serving as lead designer.
